Story a day: 2.2.16

Prompt: Today’s format is cinquain. “The most common cinquains in English follow a rhyme scheme of ababb, abaab or abccb.”

The clouds did part for but a day
and while none seemed to wish them gone
(so often did I hear them say
how much they loved unending gray),
they soon became the sunlight’s pawn.
